Why It’s Never Too Late to Start Again
Have you ever felt like you were standing at the foot of a huge, impossible mountain?
Not the kind made of rock and snow… but the kind made of fear, doubt, procrastination, and those quiet whispers that say, “It’s too late for you.”
Brianna Wiest’s book The Mountain Is You is all about this very thing the idea that sometimes, the biggest obstacle in our way isn’t out there in the world… it’s inside us.
And here’s the beautiful truth:
You are not too old.
You’re not “starting over.”
You are restarting again with experience, with wisdom, and with a heart that has already survived so much.
Your Mountain Might Look Different Now
In our 20s, our mountain might have been finding our place in the world.
In our 30s, it might have been juggling work, family, or chasing dreams.
But now, in midlife, that mountain can look like:
• Letting go of old patterns that don’t serve us anymore
• Believing we still have time to grow, change, and thrive
• Daring to dream again when life has thrown us curveballs
Climbing Isn’t About Speed It’s About Direction
One of my favourite lessons from the book is this: the mountain is not there to crush you, it’s there to teach you how to climb.
Every small step you take setting a new boundary, trying something outside your comfort zone, choosing self-care over self-criticism is a step up that mountain.
You don’t have to leap to the top overnight.
You just have to take the next step.
Moving the Mountain of Self-Destruction
The mountain we face in midlife is often self-doubt disguised as “being realistic.” It’s that little voice that I call negative nelly says:
• “I can’t start a business at my age.”
• “I’ll never get my confidence back.”
• “It’s too late for me.”
But here’s the truth: every time you believe that, you’re building the mountain higher.
And every time you challenge it by learning, trying, and refusing to give up you’re chipping it away.
Your Next Step
Ask yourself today: What’s one small step I can take to move my mountain?
Maybe it’s reading a chapter of this book.
Maybe it’s signing up for a class you’ve been putting off.
Maybe it’s simply looking in the mirror and saying, “I’m still here, and I’m not done yet.”
Because you’re not just climbing a mountain…
You are becoming it.
Strong. Unshakable. Majestic.
